Inventing Future of Mobility

Digital Design for HyFit by CIXI (France)

CIXI is an ambitious start-up with the objective of improving people's wellbeing and protecting the planet. CIXI developed HyFit, an individual electric vehicle that combines the benefits of a car and that of a bicycle. The objective of the HyFit is to allow people to be active during their daily trips and reduce their environmental footprint. I am proud to be a part of this project and make a mark for a better future that soon will hit the roads of the world and will change for the better the way we move.

In June 2020 I started a collaboration with CIXI as a part of a design team on the creation of the CIXI digital experience. The main challenge was to create an experience for the product that does not exist yet, to transform complex and abstract concepts and challenges into well-articulated tangible solutions. After some months of intense work together with the design team, we created a digital design system, including a CIXI website, app and a vehicle dashboard.

We defined design principles at the beginning of the process to contribute to users' digital wellness. CIXI digital experience was created to support users needs without stealing their attention. We wanted CIXI users to be able to enjoy the process of the ride, feeling their bodies full of energy and the beauty of nature around them.

That is why we tried to reduce the time of interaction with the app, the vehicle dashboard and the website. We invented a 'minimalist' menu that provides users with all the actions and information of the first necessity, an 'invisible' dashboard screen that hides away when not in use and wakes up when needed. For the first time in history creating a digital experience we wanted our users to use it consciously and even created a button 'close the app'.

Here you have seen just one branch of the CIXI App, its wireframes and some examples of how these functions were realised in the prototype. The complexity of the app was in a big number of concepts and functions to develop and test with users. These functions and concepts later were tested during UX Research to define the MVP and to find a balance between users' needs and business goals. The main functions realised in the app were organised in the following branches:

  • control  progress on physical activity

  • control the progress on mindfulness activities

  • control ecological footprint

  • define the goals for activities

For the digital design system, we have created a typography guide and iconography system. Special attention was given to the development of icons, that are used as symbols for controls, indicators and tell-tales to ensure identification and facilitate use. The whole iconographic system was created in accordance with the norms and standards defined by ISO 2575:2021, which defines rules for symbols for controls, indicators and tell-tales for road vehicles.

JUNE 2020

Ideation, Design and Development of CIXI Digital Design System: a user app, a vehicle dashboard, a website. Preparation of the prototypes for UX Research.

AUGUST 2020

Recruitment. UX Research.

Debriefing and synthesising of the recieved results and development of design guidelines and opportunities. Wrapping-up.

Thanks to the well-coordinated work of the design team and efficient collaboration with a big multifunctional CIXI team of strategic management, marketing, product owner and engineers, we were able to transform just in two months an abstract vision of CIXI digital design system into an innovative tangible user-centered solution. The first version of it was tested during UX Research with users. The research has given the team many insights and answers to the questions that we had, which later became the fundament for the guidelines and opportunities for the next version of CIXI Digital Design System.
